VB6 Downloads
Visual Basic 6.0 is no longer supported by Microsoft so how do you get a hold of it? Currently there is not an easy legal way to get a hold of VB6. Yes that's correct - although people will tell you to simply download a bit-torrents for VB6 or to search for visual studio 6 download on "bad" sites, this is not legal because you did not buy a VB6 license. Stupid I agree considering that Microsoft does not allow you to purchase a license.
If you simply need to install an application that was originally written in VB6 you can download the Runtime Installer for VB, install it, and then install your VB program. If you want to get a hold of the VB6 developer environment I suggest asking friends that might have it and no longer use it - for example companies that maybe bought legitimate copies and are willing to give up their license (although you would need to verify this is legal and that the license is transferable). Another option is to try and buy it on EBAY.
For those of you that already own VB6 but are looking for good add-ins and downloads for it here is a list of a few good ones.

- MZ Tools - FREE add in you can download and use to make your coding more productive.
- Error handling tool adds error handling to all routines or selected routines in your VB code
- Code Help Addin - Adds many useful features - including an easy way to change tab information
- Icon Archive - This is a great site with free icons you can download to use in your Visual Basic software. They have a great search feature and a huge number of resources.
- SourceMonitor - This is an excellent tool for doing static code analysis on your larger VB applications. It works with VB6, VB.NET, and many other languages.
- VB to Converter - This tool is a little more controversial. We almost didn't list it, but this site lets you convert VB6 code to many different languages if you are at a point you need to do so.

My 12 year old daughter needs to learn VB6 as part of her computer education in school. I understand that Microsoft does not support VB6 anymore ?? Is VB2010 very different from VB6 ? Can she learn the fundamentals of VB6 if I download and install VB2010 ? I am not a programmer, a simple explanation will be most useful.

VB2010 is different from VB6 but it has the same fundamentals (if-then-else, for loops, do while). .NET have a lot of modern functions to write better and more reliable programs than vb6. The teacher of your daughter is old fashioned... VB2010 is free.
But if you really need VB6, try to search "vb6 portable", there are even Youtube videos that show how to use it. But it's illegal (VB6 is a commercial program).

VB 5 is no longer available, but VB 2, 3, 4, & 6 are all still available as downlevel licenses via MSDN when you *PURCHASE* Visual Studio. It was never free, and still isn't. If you want free, there *ARE* free additions of VS (Express), and there are a lot more examples of coding in .net then vb6 to help you get going - and you don't *HAVE* to write a .net program using all those nice features like objects, inheritance, etc... trust me, I support an app written when .net first came out by a programmer with a lot of vb6 experience, and it looks just like vb6 code, other than occasional use of actual error handling instead of that on..resume crap.
If you are a professional and have a vb6 codebase that you still need to support, then man up and pay for your MSDN subscription. If you are a hobbyist and just want to make something work for you, look into the express versions of VS, and LightSwitch.

Actually, vb5 Control Creation Edition (vb5CCE) was a freebie from MS and is still available. Just not directly from MS anymore. MS pulled the Visual Studio 6 download from their website, but they previously licensed that package to book publishers to include with their programming books and a search of Amazon.com, Books-A-Million, etc., will turn up a number of those books that still have the CD's in them. Of course, CCE will only compile active-x controls but you can still write and run standard exe programs as long as you stay in the development environment. As for vb6, the Working Model Edition was licensed to publishers the same way as CCE and is still widely available in books such as the various "Learn VB6 in XXX Hours". The Working Model Edition won't compile anything but is otherwise pretty complete and works well if you run programs in the development environment. Cash outlay for these books would be minimal (used books with cd via Amazon Marketplace can go for as little as $0.01 plus $3.00 shipping. Just be sure the cd really is included!) and they just might provide everything a person needs for personal use. For professional use or where compiling is required MSDN subscriptions or a search of eBay may be the only answers.

Do you really need VB6 in 2012? It's an old software that was designed for another generation of OS. It was very good and popular at his time but today it seems to have reached limits. Considering that Windows 8 (as I read in some Microsoft forum) will NOT officially support VB6 runtimes (this doesn't mean that it will not run, but if it doesn't work, do not ask support from MS).
VB.NET is a lot better, with modern features and more... And I suggest you to look at Visual Studio Express : it's FREE and LEGAL.
A lot of hobbyist programmers fear VB.NET because they think it's harder to learn, but this is not true : you can easily learn VB.NET with your previous VB6 experience, and you'll benefit for that.

VB6 already has a timer. Look for a little clock icon on the left side of your vb6 screen in the toolbox. That is the timer. Click on it and then paste a copy of it onto your game form. Set the timer with the number of milliseconds you need and then enable it when you want to start timing. The timer event will fire every time the set number of milliseconds has passed. Use this event to enable your timed process. You can have as many timers as you need on a form, each with separate settings. The standard timer is pretty accurate, but if you need even more precision there are examples all over the 'net explaining how to write a better timer. For most purposes, though, the standard timer is just fine.

(I won't open it, since I have digital iso copy). I suggest either search on ebay for "Microsoft Visual Basic 6" or download it. If you want exact 1:1 cd copy - search for "VBP600ENU1" (pro edition) or "VBE600ENU1" (ent edition) + ".ISO" ,".BIN" etc. Search on google, ftp, torrents...
Then you might additionally want MSDN Library. Search for "DN60AENU1" and "DN60AENU2".

Portable version
The portable version of visual basic 6 has limited or no access to database. It lacks additional significant controls that the enterprise edition contains. So if you do not own the enterprise edition, chances are you cannot create advanced programs successfully.

what is the v.b code that can delete all records at once in the
i came up wit a v.b 6.0 application of a telephone directorate that captures name,location,phone,mobile,comments having commands such as add,clear,exit and delete. the issue is on the delete button. it can only delete one record at every click of the delete button . i am kindly requesting for help i want know the v.b code that can delete all records in the database in case the delete button is clicked i will be so great full if my request is put in to consideration
It all depends on what object
It all depends on what object you are using to store the directory. But most objects that hold lists like that (I am assuming this is how you coded it) will have a clear function. Failing that, you could create a for loop that calls your delete function repeatedly to clear the data. Assuming your delete function takes 2 arguments:
first - the list to remove an item from
second - an integer for the index to be deleted
you could do something like:
for counter as integer = 0 to list.length -1 DeleteItem(list,0) nextbut again, this all depends on your delete function and the objects you are using...
